This laser pointer uses technology that allows you to own the closest thing, to the real life equivalent in a virtual world.
This laser pointer can be used in or out of mouse look as an attachment or while rezzed on the ground.
It does not require build to be enabled when using it as an attachment.
Using the HUD:
Options can be set by using single clicks or by holding the mouse button down.
Max distance 10 meters minimum to 60 meters maximum. (Sets the maximum distance the laser beam will travel).
Beam Width 010 to 014 (Sets the beam thickness).
Beam Alpha 001 to 100 (Sets the beams transparency level).
Particle Size 001 to 100 (Sets the burning smoke particle effect size).
Particle Age 001 to 100 (Sets the burning smoke particle effect age).
Glow Intensity 000 to 100 (Sets the beams glow intensity).
Flash Rate 010 to to 600 (Sets the beams flashing rate if the flashing option is turned on. 250 works well with all viewers)
Type: CastRay Type.
Repeat: Sets the laser to use a repeated castray.
Single: Sets the laser to use a single castray per click.
Laser On off: Can be used to turn the laser on and off if the laser is rezzed on the ground.
Flash On off: Used to turn the flashing option on or off.
Laser Color: Used to set the color of the laser beam using the color picker.
Model Color: Used to set the color of the laser model using the color picker.
Click the small red light to change these.
Accuracy: Good accuracy can be achieved, by following these steps.
1. Turn off your AO (Animation override)
2. Make sure you are at lest 1 meter away from the object you are aiming at.
3. (For mouse look) Press M to enter mouse look; this might require closing or deselecting the chat window or chat bar.
4. Press and hold down the left mouse button.
The laser beam will point with around %95 accuracy at what you are pointing at.
If you can not see the laser beam in mouse look, you will need to enable the option “Show me in mouse look” found in your viewer preferences.
Using the laser pointer in 3rd person perspective or while viewing your avatar is possible but the accuracy is limited. Again press and hold down the left mouse button to turn it on and make sure your AO (Animation override) is turned off, as this will effect the pointers direction.
FAQ:
Q: When I direct the laser pointer on the wall of my house, the beam does not stop directly on the wall, it's a few inches away from it?
A: The laser uses a function called castray, but this is only effective on the physics shape of an object (this is an invisible representation of the visible shape). With mesh content, the physics shape is not always going to perfectly match what you visually see, so the laser pointer is not always going to be even while using it against a mesh house wall. This can be tested by creating a ordinary 'test prim' wall and directing the laser towards it.
Q: When using the laser pointer, while standing very close a wall, it just goes directly through it?
A: This is because you need to be standing at lest 1 meter away from any object that you are aiming at; if you are standing to close, the castray function cannot determine the beginning position and therefor will not see the wall.
