A beautiful 1880s french Barbizon-style frame with ogee profile and continuous finely detailed scrolling acanthus leaf ornamentation. The picture inside can be replaced.

The original featured painting is "Homer and his Guide", painted in 1874 by William-Adolphe Bouguereau: in this mythological scene, the famous greek blind aoidos, author of the Illiad and The Odissey, after praying for a guide, is helped by some young shepherds. The painting is based on a scene on Andre Chenier’s poem “L’Aveugle”. The painting today is located in the Milwaukee Art Museum.

William-Adolphe Bouguereau (1825-1905) was a french academic painter. A master of realism, he created incredible modern interpretations of classical subjects and myths, with a great emphasis on the female human body. He always enjoyed great popularity, exhibiting at the annual exhibitions of the Paris Salon for his entire working life, and never ceased to inspire artists even after his death.
