This magnificent antique Amritstar harks back to the masterpieces of Mughal and Safavid times, of which it is a truly worthy descendant. Superbly detailed palmettes, cloudbands, and thin vines repeat across the burgundy-magenta ground in the measured, swaying rhythms of classical design. The cocoa and green tones of the palmettes predominate in the ground color of the border, enclosing the field with an effective but reserved contrast.
Please note the original dimensions of this rug. Although supplied as modifiable, over stretching may distort the pattern. Also note that as a representation of a handmade product it may have less than perfect linage. This part of the beauty of such a rug.
