This is a VKC Toy System 2 item. The dogs actually carry the toys in their mouths. No more toys following well behind the dogs! This toy is designed to work with the VKC Dogs created after 2010 (see http://www.virtualkennelclub.com/creation#chronology). Plus, the toys are backwards compatible with the old system of following toys, so any VKC Dog can play with this toy.
