THE INTERCOMS

A Bright Intercom is a speaker, microphone, pager, and online indicator. It works with text rather than voice, and can transmit chat heard near the intercom to you, whever you are in the region, and allow you to speak through it. It can also (optionally) show floating text to indicate if you are online, and allow people to page you simply by clicking.

It comes in two forms. As a single prim, it shows a speaker/microphone graphic and the "Bright Intercom" logo: but being modifiable, you can resize or retexture it as you wish. As a script, you can drop it into *any* modifable object to turn it into an intercom.

To install an intercom, just rez it, and give it a meaningful name. like "Doorway" or "Help Desk".

THE HUD

Find the Bright Intercom HUD in your Inventory, right-click it, and click "Wear". It will display a small picture of an intercom at the bottom of your screen. If you'd like it elsewhere, choose "Attach To HUD" instead of "Wear", and then choose the position from the list displayed.

THE MAIN MENU

Click the HUD to display a blue window in the top-right of your screen listing the intercoms in your current region, like this:

---

/121 1=Hi! speaks via #1, /121 0=Hi! via all
○=listening, ●=paging, ♪=bell, T=text

1○: Doorway@10/50/60
2●♪T: Help Desk@28/95/60

---

In this example, there are two intercoms in the region. Note the little icons next to their names: the white circle next to the "Doorway" intercom shows that it is currently listening: so you will hear anything said near it. The black circle next to the "Help Desk" shows that this intercom allows people to page you by clicking: the musical note indicates that they'll hear a bell when they do, and the "T" that the text "Your Name is online"/"click here to page". floats over the box.

If there were more than nine intercoms, you could click the and buttons to page through them. This list is updated whenever you wear the HUD, log in, or teleport from region to region: but if you wish to force an update, click . Always after you have *moved* an intercom, or if you have dragged an intercom's movement arrows while holding down shift to create a copy of one.

At the top of the list it explains how to *speak* through an intercom. If you type '/121 1=Hi!', then anyone within 20m of intercom 1 - in this example, the Doorway intercom - will hear...

Your Name: Hi!

...almost as if you had spoken yourself, though Second Life will colour the text differently to normal chat to indicate that your words were relayed by an object. If you say '/121 0=Hi!', then the message will be broadcast via *all* your intercoms in the region.
