So much for great animations, great avatars... and avatars still feel dead...
Something's wrong...
What is it...?
THEY'RE COMPLETELY SILENT!

This is when Dynastep comes in!

Wait Dynastep? what's this thing!? Some new stupid dance move?
Oh, not at all, Dynastep is a HUD tool which makes Second Life feel a bit more alive by adding footsteps and other ambient sounds to an avatar's movement!

Add that spice your awesome avatar is lacking to be complete! It comes with two default libraries, and more are to come in the future which you will be able to get for a low price!
You can even make your own if you wish!

Dynastep will play a set of sounds following a timing you can also set up, and, if the place you are at is compatible with this feature, and, the library supports them, it will also detect what kind of surface you're standing on! That includes, but is not limited to, grass, metal, gravel, sand, wood, concrete... etc

Not only plays sounds from your footsteps, but it also supports a second audio channel, letting you add special effects, like clothing movement as you walk or run! (No, jumping with your hands is not really a natural thing, normal people don't do that)

Give your avatar the extra bit it needs to be complete, get Dynastep, and let everyone, not only see your avatar, but also hear it too!

  • 2 available sound channels
  • Surface recognition (with compatible areas)
  • Library system, custom libraries supported
  • HIGHLY customizable setups
  • API/Plugin system available for creators

It's a good product, when it works

In the past, tis worked extremely well, and was my often go to for being immersive and when I was running around in quiet sims.

But lately, it's completely stopped working. I get a redeliver, that works for a few week, and then eventually, the sounds just stop playing. So Idk what to do.

But overall, it's a very god product. When it works. 4 stars cause I'm guessing it's a script issue. but 5 stars if this ever gets fixed.

I'm a sucker for immersion, even if SL is about as unimmersive as a "game" can be most of the time, and this delivers heaps of it. A whole library of different footstep sounds for different surfaces, easily adjustable timing, and an aux library system allowing for additional sounds to be overlayed on top of your footsteps (ex. cloth rustling) makes this one of the most robust footstep sound systems you can find, and for a very cheap price!

The default sound library is very high quality and will work pretty flawlessly for all avatar types, but Dynastep also supports multiple sound libraries you can easily switch between, with the creator having some alternative libraries available for only 60L. (remember that uploading anything to SL costs 10L, and each pack contains multiple step sounds for a single surface. You can probably see how this adds up fast, and why the price of the packs is very generous as a result.) Unfortunately, there aren't many third-party Dynastep packs available, but what's there should be enough for anything you want.

Something to keep in mind, however, is that a lot of the surface-based sounds won't work if the sim you're in doesn't have the prims you walk on set up with their material type in the name or description. This is unfortunately a limitation that cannot be bypassed on Dynastep's end in any conceivable way, but from experience I can say that changing prims to have the right materials is stupidly easy, so if you're a builder that's also a sucker for immersion I /highly/ recommend adding Dynastep compatibility to your sim.

Protip: Even if you don't get Dynastep, find the option in your viewer of choice to mute that horrendous *bump* noise SL plays whenever you collide with something, but !especially! do this if you get DS.

Such a great thing for such a low price. Thanks for this!

But... would be great to add something like "ds:<material>, more text unrelated to Dynastep" (e.g. 'ds:wood') etc. as a possible way to change surface sounds on prims so a description can contain more than just the "surface definition" for Dynastep. That would be helpful if the description of an object is used for other stuff aswell e.g. scripts or other notices etc.

Hope you understand what I tried to explain x) ... anyway ... wonderful "little" thing doing audio magic. :D <3

Should be a base SL feature.

I love ambient sounds and this adds to the feel of making things seem more alive in the SL world. I find the default volume a bit high, but after toning it down I'm sure to not annoy anyone and I feel like it just adds some weight to things. There are other cheaper footstep sounds out there, but they're not done nearly as well. I make multiple copies of the HUD with different footsteps enabled and save them with various outfits so my foot noises always make sense. :) Thank you so much for this.
