Chest of drawers made by Jean-Henri Riesener for the private cabinet of Queen Marie Antoinette and delivered to the Château du Petit Trianon in 1785.
Entirely covered in marquetry of satinwood, rosewood, ebony, and mahogany from Cuba. Delicate gilt bronze mounts on the front frieze, apron protecting the corners.
White marble for the surface.
This style of furniture, simpler, more refined, and natural response to the new French mode "a la Anglaise" was so popular at the end of the 18th century.
