How to use:
• Right-click the HUD in your inventory and choose Add.
• The Omnimeter HUD will attach to the center of your screen.

When seated on a vehicle:
• Touch to register a new vehicle with the HUD and display the meter.
• Touch the HUD to change the measurement units. This also resets the trip meters.
• Long press to de-register the current vehicle and remove it from the HUD.
When not seated in a vehicle:
• Touch to deactivate the HUD. Touch again to reactivate.
• Long press wile the HUD is active to receive a list of vehicles that are registered with the HUD.
Speed:
• This is your speed in any direction - horizontally, vertically, or a combination of each.
• Speed can be shown in m/s, km/h, mph and kts. Touch the HUD to cycle between these.
Heading:
• Your horizontal heading is shown in degrees and 16 compass cardinal directions.
• Heading and compass displays are always relative to the vehicle.
Altitude:
• The altimeter shows your current altitude above land, water or an object.
• The altimeter works correctly underwater, showing a depth from the water surface.
• Altitude is not shown when you are within 0.5m from the land/water surface or object below.
• Symbols: The surface below is represented with Unicode symbols for Land, Water, Underwater and Object.
Trip Meters:
• These meters show the distance travelled and time elapsed since they were last reset.
• Touch the HUD to reset the trip meters.
• Touch repeatedly to cycle the available measurement units.
Odometer:
• This is the total distance travelled in this vehicle since it was registered with the HUD.
• Distance is only recorded when you have the HUD attached.
• Touch the HUD to cycle the the available measurement units.
Hourmeter:
• The is the total time spent operating this vehicle since it was registered with the HUD.
• Hours are only recorded when you have the HUD attached.
Alerts:
• Warnings for region border and corner proximity and low altitude.
• A distinct warning color is displayed for each warning type.
• Border and corner warnings are speed-sensitive aiming to give enough time for evasive action.
• A low altitude alert is shown when less than 50m above land or water, which is the height limit for regular parcel ban lines. Remain above this level to avoid them.

I never thought I'd need a compas in SL quite so much.
I've added all my boats, cars, flying vehicles and even mounts (though the latter only while rezzed). Updated vehicles are a breeze, just make sure your vehicle name is the same!
