The Furious Altimeter is a simple HUD that shows your current altitude in meters above ground or water, whichever is highest. Note that this is different to the z-value displayed in your viewer, which is the absolute height above zero.
The HUD can operate in two modes. To switch between them, simply touch the HUD.
Silent mode - In silent mode, your altitude will be displayed at all times with no warnings or alerts. The HUD will remain a dark color at all times.
Alert mode - In alert mode, your altitude is constantly compared to two values, a warning height and an alert height:
• While you remain above the warning and alert heights, the HUD will remain green.
• If you go below the warning height, the HUD will turn yellow/amber.
• If you go below the alert height, the HUD will turn red and an alert sound will begin.
By default, the warning height is set to 65m and the alert height is set to 50m. These were chosen because Second Life ban lines extend 50m above the ground or water. If you remain more than 50m above the ground/water, you will avoid those ban lines.
Note that the "security orb" products available for purchase on Marketplace are not height limited. There is no safe height that will avoid these orbs.
You can adjust the warning and alert heights, and also set the alert sound volume by setting three values in the HUD's object description, like so:
65;50;10
• The first value (65) is the warning height in meters.
• The second value (50) is the alert height in meters.
• The third value (10) is the alert sound volume as a percentage.
Finally, you can replace the default alert sound by dropping your own sound into the HUD inventory.
