Builder's Greeting.
First of all, thank you for considering the Ktaba J-Class "Maia". As a sailor in rl myself, I know sailors are free spirits, and dreamers. The sailors of SL are no different, and in many ways even bigger dreamers than rl sailors. I know it's not just the boat, but we like to look good, and feel good when we're on the water. Our ships are not just a part of us, and who we are, but real, living partners, with lives and personalities of their own. Most importantly, however, the skippers and crew should *feel* good, and feel *free* when at the helm. From the start, I intended Maia, and her sister ship, Vanya, to be an immersive sailing experience that brings the freedom and bliss of a real sailboat to the sailors of SL.
I believe sailing is good for the soul - if there's anything better in this life, I haven't found it. I designed the Maia with this in mind, because the mere sight of a classic cutter is enough to lift a sailor's spirits. Maia was built to be sailed, so... SAIL! Enjoy life! Have fun! And be happy!
Maia sulie,
Craig

A Little Background on the J-Class Yachts.
The Maia is a reproduction of the most renowned of all America's Cup racing yachts, and many sailors believe the J-Class represents the pinnacle of the golden Age of classic racing yachts. It is hard to find a sailor whose heart doesn't palpitate just a little when he sees one. She carries a skipper and five crew members, and features a low-lag, low-prim design that includes:
* high-detail, low-LI mesh construction
* high-performance, low-lag sailing engine (< 400K memory!)
* easy-to-customize mesh design
* WWC or Bwind
* crew controls
* luffing sails
* lavishly-fitted with authentic hardware
* windvane
* custom textures
* custom animations
* various innovations and desirables (sonar/ compass hud, bow wave, realistic spinnaker controls, new algorithms "under the hood")
Maia and Vanya are "sister-ships". Each has her own unique sailing and performance characteristics, her own "quirks", and her own "personality". Maia and Vanya are both J-Class yachts, and since they share the same "family", they may be raced against each other competitively, without handicaps. Maia performs slightly better on downwind runs, while Vanya performs slightly better while pointing upwind.
Feature-for-feature, the Ktaba Maia distinguishes herself among finest racing yachts in SL.

One of my favorites :)
Truly one of the finest vessels in SL.
Thanks a lot for this Craig !!
What a Yacht!
If the Maia under full sail doesn't take your breath away and speed your pulse you might better take up gardening. You aren't a sailor! She's magnificent....nothing in SL compares and not much in RL.
Best experience
I am always hesitant to spend when there is no demo available. I don't mind paying for quality stuff so I purchased this over a review.
And when I rezzed it I knew it was a good purchase. When the sails went up I was impressed and started sailing her. It's amazing how impressive it is and how nice it performs and God she's fast!
I love how it behaves and the inertia. She's quite slippery and it's a good challenge if you are used to smaller boats.
So far this is the best ship I've seen. The hud with sonar is super handy. It lacks a hud to trim and operate the multiple sails so far is done by commands and it would be nice to have it in the future. it keeps being upgraded and the support is very nice.
I can't but recommend it. This is a boat that turns heads around because it's so beautiful and magnificent specially downwind.
You will not regret the purchase.
what a view
not so easy to take the perfect picture, also never saw her in rl. so let us settle for dream in sl
What a sailing challenge
Being a newbie to sl sailing this boat is one heck of a challenge compared to my Bandit 55. But it is so beautiful and rewarding to sail. No cabin or pose balls but just beautiful to sail. It will take me a lot of practice to get used to this big Lady. If you want to take up that challenge this is the boat that will issue it.
Yes a lot of lindens but you get a lot of boat for them. It is endearing, good looking and probably sails in a manner to the original. To Craig a big well done for her and thanks for updating her as well.
My Favorite Boat to Sail
First of all, I love this boat! I own several sailing boats. I choose carefully so I like almost all in my collection. The Maia is by far the most realistic and challenging to sail. It is a big boat and turns slowly and you can easily over correct long before you realize it. It is a real challenge in narrow channels, around islands and in traffic. But that's one of the things I really love about it. It requires all of my attention to handle. It crosses sims very easily, and, of course, it's a great looking boat: very impressive with all her sails raised.
