Caudron G3 - 1913

The incursions of french brothers Rene and Gaston Caudron in the aeronautic field started in 1909, when they installed a factory in Rue, in the Somme area.
The first successful model was the C, and that design evolved into the E and F, reaching the high point on the G series.
Many engines powered the different versions of the aircraft. Anzani, Gnome, LeRhone, fixed or rotative, from 50 to 100 HP. Depending of the version, the engine could be covered or exposed.
The great stability, easy commands and reliability made it very appreciated by pilots, and the aircraft was used in roles of sport vehicle, training, observation and even light bombing, and after the outbreak of the First World War the model it was ordered in large quantities. Around 3000 aircraft were built, mostly in France, but also in Italy and Great Britain.
Usually, the G3 was not equipped with any weapons, although sometimes light machine guns and some hand-released small bombs were fitted to it.

The model represented is the two seat 1913 version with a radial Anzani 50 HP engine.
