OVERVIEW:
Here, catch! There's nothing quite as distracting as a grenade going off nearby. Flush your opponents out of cover or blow them to tiny bits!
BACK STORY:
"I dropped the pin to the floor and relaxed my grip, letting the metal spoon spring off the grenade...an instant later, I felt the concussion rip through the air, followed by the high-pitched shrill of my ears ringing. I shook my head, and tried to clear my blurred vision enough to assess the blast. I was bleeding from my arm, where bits of concrete and metal had peppered me. Too close. But my attackers had fared much worse..."
CONTROLS
The Grenade Pack is designed to be used as either a supplement to your currently-equipped weapon, or as a standalone weapon. In standalone mode, referred to as "mouseclick mode," the grenades are thrown using the standard left mouse button. Alternatively, they can be thrown using the "quickthrow" command, which instantly throws the grenade, and can be used in or out of mouseclick mode.
The grenade pack attaches to your belt by default, but can be attached anywhere on your avatar and still function. It will display the currently-equipped grenade type.
Grenades can be switched between "timed" and "impact." Timed grenades have a 4-second fuse, while impact grenades will explode the instant they hit something. There is a 3-second cool-down time after throwing a grenade.
By using the 'range' command, users can set the default distance that grenades are thrown, from 5 to 30 meters.
HEADS UP DISPLAY (HUD)
Included with the Grenade Pack is a custom Heads Up Display, or HUD. It displays the currently-equipped grenade type, the range, and whether the grenade is set to impact or timed mode.
Clicking the range icon (shown as a meter with an increasing vertical curve) will toggle between 3 predefined range settings: 10 meters, 20 meters, and 30 meters. Clicking the button below it (displayed as either a clock or a bounding arrow) will toggle between impact detonation (bounding arrow) and timed detonation (clock). The bottom-left icon which shows the grenade type can be clicked to open a quick-picker menu for grenade types. The quick-picker will close itself when you choose a new grenade type.
Also included is an indicator HUD, which is displayed over your mouselook cursor. It visualizes the cooldown timer for the grenade. When the timer is visible, you're still counting down until you can throw another grenade. When the timer disappears, you're ready to throw!
The grenades are fully-functional without either (or any) HUD, through the use of chat commands.
GRENADE (AMMO) TYPES
Frag (fragmentation)
A traditional hand grenade. Creates a shrapnel explosion that is highly effective against infantry (avatars), zombies, and vehicles. 5-meter kill radius.
Incendiary
A thermate grenade that creates a lingering fireball when detonated. The intense heat is extremely effective against unarmored infantry (avatars) and zombies, as well as armored vehicles. Targets within a 5-meter radius will be set on fire, and will continue taking damage for a few seconds until the flames go out. Infantry will typically be killed nearly instantly, while zombies and armored targets may burn for an extended period. The initial fireball will burn for about 15 seconds after detonation, igniting any targets that stray too close to it, or dealing continuous damage against stationary targets.
Stun
A less-lethal grenade that blinds infantry (avatars) rather than killing them. It has an effective radius of 10 meters, much larger than most other grenade types, but will only work against infantry. Affected infantry are blinded for 10 seconds.
Smoke
A smokescreen grenade that creates a cloud of smoke about 25 meters in diameter, useful for hiding your movements or blocking your opponent's view. Does not deal any damage. The smoke lasts for about 20 seconds.
Signal
A signal grenade which produces a bright violet column of smoke, which can be seen very, very far away. Can be used to mark enemy positions, or rally your own troops to a location. Does not deal any damage. The signal lasts for 60 seconds.
Party
A confetti-filled grenade which deals no damage. Perfect for celebrating your victories, or annoying your friends.
