every so often, it talks.
sometimes it will change shape.
that's about it.
also, you can now attach it
and it will shrink to convenient
'pet' size'. To turn it on and off
when in worn mode, double-click
it.

script that changes colors,
shapes, and pulls random
quotes from a website.
these quotes will be added to
over time. some of these quotes
may be clues to a larger game.
hmm's mutterings are absolutely
random. hmm is NOT listening
to your conversations, if it says
anything that sounds like an actual
conversational response, it is pure
coincidence, honest!

2021 backend update
Since this product was released, Rez has changed web hosts a few times. The old updater service hmm used is now defunct. The hmm is now collecting the keys and names of its owners in preparation for a future update.

- hmm will not ping the server if there is no one within whisper range
- hmm can now properly handle website error codes when the host has problems
- hmm can now be worn as a pet. it will scale down to a more wearble size when attached
- hmm has less hard-wired textual errors
- floats in mid air, glows
- changes shape at will
- speaks random phrases
- wearable as a pet
- simple on/off interface
very hmm.. but also a bit hmm.
what a lovely concept, and such elegance, wonderfully realised, with a generous hint of existentialist paradigm, all wrapped up in an amorphous sphube.
i understand this has been running nearly a decade now, so maybe the action has passed it's peak, or the story behind this could just be the beginning of an epic. still, for me, the intrigue is offset by uncertainty, as my dear hmm seems to have a slight mean streak and looked a little menacing the other day, so i can't commit to bringing hmm with me to social events.
perhaps there will be some other aspects of the project i would be interested in.
