pa-18 super cub bogie wheels (boxed)
PLEASE NOTE: This is a modification for the Laminar Systems PA-18 Super Cub.
You must own the Super Cub in order to be able to use this.
PLANE NOT INCLUDED!
Enough caveats, have some product description instead.
This is a pair of bogie wheels, an alternative to tundra tyres for rough terrain.
Hand crafted (well, made by paw actually) with high, medium, low, lowest and physics models all painstakingly created by me. The mesh uploader has generated none of this so you get nothing but nicely made mesh that shouldn't interfere with the normal operation of your cub.
Installation is quite simple, honest.
If you're familiar with modding/editing, then unlink the existing undercarriage, copy the script inside it in to inventory, rez the wheels and position them in the same position and rotation as the plane, link the undercarriage to the plane and copy the script in to the new wheels (not the undercarriage, the wheels and undercarriage are separate items). You know what to do :)
However, if you're not that familiar with modding/editing, the manual has lots of step by step instructions for installing your new bogie wheels.
Using your wheels is simple too.
Just take off/fly/land as you normally would.
The wheels actually listen for the plane's own internal messages to do with being airborn, landing and taxiing and will:-
a) pick up the front wheel when airborn, just a few degrees. Well, 5 degrees actually, and...
b) the wheels will run parallel along the ground when landing or taxiing, adjusting themselves to take in to account how your cub is rotated. If you're quick with your camera, you can see them adjusting as you flare in to that landing :)
Like the ski mod, note that there are a few rare occasions I've noticed when the tyres chirp on sim crossings, This is the cub's undercarriage script thinking it has landed, *just* for a moment before deciding the plane is airborn again. I've noticed a couple of these have caused the wheels to shift their normal airborn rotation by a few degrees, my guess is that the order of the messaging in the linkset is getting a bit messed up by the sim crossing. It's nothing to worry about, the wheels will work correctly when the plane issues it's normal airborn/land/taxi messages again.
Out of the box, the wheels are coloured to match the standard yellow cub colour scheme.
Included in the box are FP textures for your modding pleasure. Feel free to export them and modify them to suit your cub's colour scheme.
Also, for those of you that want to get fancy, the PSD files are available.
The undercarriage struts use the same mapping/texture as that from the tundra tyres mod, so that might save you some work :)
I've done plenty of take offs and landings with the wheels with no problems, so I'm confident that you won't have any problems either :)
