PLEASE NOTE: This is a modification for the Laminar Systems PA-18 Super Cub.
You must own the Super Cub in order to be able to use this.
PLANE NOT INCLUDED!
After the caveat, some blurb!
This is a script that you drop in to your plane that will show you important dashboard readings in a hovertext display.
It shows readings from the following instruments:-
heading
airspeed
RPM
variometer
In addition, it will show you:-
current trim setting (not in pictures above, added in version 1.1.0)
the pitch of the aircraft's nose (whether you're pointing up or down)
altitude above sea level
altitude above ground level
Like my popular boat info HUD mods, this is simple to install.
The script will work in any part of the plane, it doesn't care where it lives. It must be a part of the plane that doesn't already respond to touch, and is probably best placed on the centre line of the plane. I recommend the tail, elevator or rudder but wherever works for you is fine by the script. If you want to see it in mouselook, then I'd recommend installing it in the dashboard gauges.
First, decide whether you want to see white text or black text. There are two scripts, one for each colour.
Second, decide where you're going to put the script.
Third, rez your cub, edit it, use Edit Linked to select the part to contain the script then drag the black text or white text script (NOT BOTH, REPEAT NOT BOTH) from your inventory in to the editor's Content tab (having made sure Edit Linked is ticked and you've selected the part, you'd be amazed how many people drop the boat HUD mods in to the root prim!). Then pick your plane up.
Using it is even more super simple!
Simply touch the part that contains the script, this will toggle the text on and off. Then read the text while you fly :)
I love mouselook instruments, and love the attention to detail that creators display when they make a working dashboard. I just don't find mouselook instruments to be that readable, maybe I have odd eyes or camera position.
So, if you want a familiar text HUD I hope you find that this fits the bill!

PS. my MP store is linked to my inworld Caspervend store, so updates/redeliveries are always available through the Caspervend system.

I tend to fly sometimes in mouse-look and other times not and found this a very useful addition to the aircraft. I look forward to seeing more add-ons for possibly this aircraft and several others that allow modifications.
This...this is PERFECT!!!
I like flying in 3rd person in SL a lot and was sad my little PA-18 didn't have an instrument HUD. You can go into 1st person and scan them quick, but it was distracting. This little script is AMAZING and gives me all the info I need. It really is as simple as clicking open a piece of the airframe (I used the rudder) and dropping it in. After you are done, you just click on the piece you dropped it in and it turns the HUD on and off. Simple. It gives me all the information I need as I fly and is REALLY handy in an aircraft like this where setting the trim makes all the difference. As well, being able to just click it off while doing my landing approach or waiting until after climb out is GREAT. Follow the directions and you will be set! Waaaay better then the expensive mesh instrumentation HUDs I was looking at! Right on Rubber Bunny!
