The Tower of Knowledge has had a chequered history and suffered from numerous repairs and remodelling.

Originally built as a look out tower for the third crusade it was later embellished and extended to house the library of the then advisor and chancellor to the King, the Grand Duke Percival D’Avion. It was his dying wish that it be bequeathed to the Noble Order of Aesthetes and it was they that completed the Tower as it is seen today, installing the elevator in the 16th century adopting techniques acquired from drawings by Leonardo made available by his eminence the Pope.

The ground floor is decorated with distinctive marble statues dating to the crusade period and the walls are fashioned from massive blocks of limestone supporting the weight of the buttressed walls above.

The front door was fashioned in the Baroque style with Romanesque columns and stucco infill, the doors open onto a large reception area and a grand staircase that leads to a mezzanine floor where the stairs have been carefully fitted into the original shape of the building, continuing up to the main public level.

The public level is open to on all sides and offers great views of the surrounding country side, this was where the clerics dealt with the public allowing no one outside the order to the levels above, originally a timber staircase was used to enter the private levels but with the completion of the elevator this was removed, aiding in the security of the building.

The lift affords access to the private levels, but can also be used now to reach the top of the tower, the private areas being locked to the public.

Once housing a large library and an impressive collection of renaissance paintings the tower is now empty, its treasures being dispersed during the 2nd World War, it serves as a blank canvas for anyone who chooses to renovate and re-equip the building. There are 3 levels all connected by a grand network of stone stairs, each with a lavish decorated ceiling. The two lower floors have been used as both study and display areas and in times of hardship have even provided living accommodation.

The top floor is often referred to as the ballroom, it has a high ceiling and huge octagonal windows over French style double doors, each set leading to a balcony affording fantastic views of the surrounding country side. On the outside there is also a marvellous chiming tower clock, four faces, presenting the time of day, visible for miles!

The crenulated roof originally sported a beacon and served as a lighthouse in earlier days, now it just houses the lift head gear and iron supports - solid anchors for the elevator guide rails that run down the side of the building.

The tower is a wonderful mix of architectural styles, from its medieval gothic origins to its Baroque ornaments it sits in the landscape impressively! The elevator is a wonder of early mechanics originally water powered supplied from artesian springs, it now uses electricity but the generator hidden in the foothills is still powered by the same waters.

The tower has a footprint of 40 x 40 metres
Height 74metres – Prims 220 with lift rezzzed.
Also included is an animated octagonal dance floor.
All doors are lockable – the control menu can be reached by clicking on the door frames.
The elevator can take 6 people, moving smoothly between floors, a call button at each level will fetch the elevator.

The Tower is made from a complex mixture of sculpties and prims and does not lend itself to remodelling, to this end the basic unit is sold no copy/no mod, this makes it very robust and can be taken in and out of inventory without fear of damage or loss. The lift is rezzed freshly each time the unit is moved so there is no harm in deleting it, it will pop back on a move or rez event.
I do suggest you visit the tower at my sim, it has been designed as a club space and would suit a variety of clan ,covern, bloodline or tribal purposes – or just as a large prestigious dwelling. I’ve painted the broad brush strokes but at just 220 prims I’ve left you plenty of scope to furnish and embellish!
The building is just one linkset and can be moved over and over without loosing doors. As with all sculpted builds I suggest you set your LOD factor to 4.
