Mixed feelings about it. Kind of feels like a missed opportunity.
In the many discussions I've heard about the relative merits of Dani planes vs. others with more "realistic"/complex/challenging characteristics, the most strongest argument in favor of Dani planes is that they are designed with the unique quirks and limitations of SL in mind.
The 188 seems intended to address the common criticism that Danis are oversimplified and "not realistic," which it achieves in some ways, but at the expense of many of Dani's traditional "SL-friendly" traits.
First, the drawbacks:
1) It's huge and has a wide turning radius during taxi, and getting it out of a parking spot with reverse thrust is like pulling teeth. This makes it a pain in the ass at a lot of airports, even fairly big ones.
2) It needs a lot of power to take off in a reasonable distance, meaning that at least in Hard mode, you're clearing the fence at fighter jet speed and have to immediately throttle back or you crash in the first few sim crossings.
Both of these have caused me to choose other airplanes for routes that any other Dani would handle easily. In fairness, I've found it great on sim crossings during cruise.
The "payoff" for incurring these new limitations is a completely new and kinda sorta somewhat more realistic physics model. I guess. But it still has the same drawbacks (for those looking for a challenge). Airspeed changes with power, not angle of attack. It will fly around just fine with 3 of the 4 engines off, with no power differential. Rudder and ailerons are still locked together. It's unclear what the flaps actually do. It stalls, kinda, but you really have to work to make it happen. Personally, I'd rather he simply released a D-300/318 update with options for more realistic performance characteristics, like ZSK's "Mode A" and "Mode B" Learjet, or SA's optional realism features.
Also, there are minor but numerous bugs, at least in version 1.1. Most noticeably for me, the chat commands for the light switches are all mixed up.
What a beautiful aircraft
I just flew the D-188 (Electra) for the first time on a long flight, went perfectly, never missed a beat and crossed superbly. Didn't carry passengers this time but will next. Shutdown an engine in flight and she kept flying perfectly. Awesome aircraft I would recommend to anyone who likes large vintage airliners.
screw what the other reviews says this thing flys Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!
the other reviewer must have a short temper or very very impatient this plane fly's like a dream
the interior a little depressing but the plane she fly's threw sim crossings like butter spread on toast sooo smooth yeah shes a big girl but she fly's very well for her size and i have flown bigger planes before . i been flying for more then 12 years in SL i can attest this plane is good haven't tested it with a full passenger count but 2 two people so far it performs well take offs on short runways not recommended i took off from a short runway and it barely made it so big airports your best bet
Uhmm what the hell is this
i have all Dani planes except for the D-treal and the Arrow, this plane leaves alot to be desired, it to big to start with and takes way to much resources to safely cross a sim. it super clunky and freakishly hard to control. it going to my junk pile of 99L planes that i never touch or fly again. he meant well and i respect that, but this plane is to big for sl and takes to much resources to safely cross a sim with some one the plane with you
Great Work Dani!
They made another Release for everyone in SL Aviation here. The Large Turboprop Airliner and Cargo Plane that fly around the SL. with it's four turboprop plane. I hope I'll use this.
