Designed after a piece by Jean François Oeben, this side table, hides a mechanism that allows to release a secret drawer, provided with a leather surface for writing and two more compartments covered in blue silk. Decorated with marquetry, the top depictes a bouquet of flowers - Camellias, daisies, tulips, roses, lilies and narcissus in differents precious veneer woods A fenix, a lion, a salamander, and a duck represent the four elements of nature. the sides are decorated with geometrical patterns with flowers, corners and edges are protected by bronze mounts in the rocaille style.
Profusely decorated, these mechanical tables, provided a space to store letters, writing utensils or small items of clothing such as gloves or ribbons, back in mid 18th century the necessity of a key to access these spaces, ensured enough privacy for one's belongings,without leaving aesthetics aside.

I purchased this desk four years ago, and should have written a review earlier. I have to say this desk is beyond beautiful!
Regardless of what sort of parcel I have at any one point in time, this desk always gets placed. I bought it as a business desk because it suited a shop I had at the time, but use it in cosy areas at home too. It can work alongside living room sets as well as in a library, and can also look lovely in a bedroom.
As is written in the product description, each part of the desk is sumptously decorated. Marie didn't scrimp on details in either the design or texturing. I'm drawn to the veneers & leather work, but l love it all, espcially the bronze metal work, feet and silk drawer lining. Because the drawer compartments are both unique and stunning, I usually keep it in the full open postion, but sometimes have it open mid-way (with the desk extender out.) The desk has modify permissions so you can adjust the shadow to suit.
Get one for yourself, or send a lavish gift. All things considered, the price is quite inexpensive considering the high quality.
