BRS Akisame

Akisame is the first of our Asian styled ships, this sloop's name translates from japanese as "Autumn Rain". In our drive to be different from the other shipyards, we designed Akisame to be totally different in looks from the other offerings out there while still being 100% SPD compatible.

While a narrow ship, Akisame lacks the slender bow and stern of our "tartana" style Mediterranean ships. This makes her more "box like" in regards to cannonballs hitting the hull. From the side she is no different from any other SPD vessel, but from front or rear, there is more "target" on deck or hull for a hit.

Powered by three "junk" or Chinese style Lug sails, Akisame is a fast ship, faster than Fortuna but slightly less maneuverable due to her long and straight keel. Like all ships lacking large square sails, Running with the wind is not her strong suite, but she is slightly faster at it than my previous vessels.

The "Sloop" class is not a rig, but a way to establishing the number of guns and hit points a ship has. Traditionally the sloop has six guns overall and only twenty hit points. Akisame does not disappoint nor does she overwhelm. In this regard she is merely average. Two bow chasers are followed on by two per broadside position.

Akisame has been a while in build. I have to thank Angelic of Red Sails Shipyard for her sails. It took a mesh artist with no small amount of sailing knowledge to produce them so perfectly. The rest of the ship was produced by myself and another great artist of mesh, Adekin Resident. His tireless work has taken over from many previous artists in producing my ships.
