The Salk Institute (founded by Jonas Salk the scientist who discovered the polio vaccine) is a biological research center in San Diego, South California, U.S. In the 60's they called the famous architect Louis Kahn to make their building, and Kahn come up with this masterpiece.
Fanatik brings you now the chance to visit this marvelous, amazing building, a modern architecture icon. Walk on the famous courtyard, climb the stairs and discover the other levels. You can turn it into a home, a store, you can even make a mall with it combining several of them.
This building was 3d modeled and textured by Kendra Zaurak and Michell Tomsen. We tried to reduce the prim count as much as possible without compromising the visual quality. It has 70 prims and fits in 36x28 meters. No pre made parts or textures were used to create this item.
IMPORTANT: All items are copy/modify/ non transferable and non scripted. They can be resized and colour tinted. We do not provide so called “Shadow maps”. Linking and un-linking prims, adding scripts and resizing might change prim count so we advise you to make a copy of your item first. When rezzed on ground – some teraforming might be needed.

Beautiful but could use more details
The model itself is beautiful and nicely captures aspects of the RL version (which I have visited) however in this rendition it remains as a sort of architectural folly which is nice to explore but difficult to integrate into ones sim as a "functional" building without adding a lot to it. The stairways do not have guardrails and there is no "glass" in the windows of the enclosed 2nd and 4th levels. It would be nice if there were doorways separating the stairs from the enclosed levels but I guess those can be added later. I like the fact each tower is a separate module and can be separated from it's base assuming you don't have the space to emulate the layout of the actual Salk Institute but want something to reflect it's general style of mid century design.

i had this building for sooo long on my wishlist and never could afford it, but finally... i got it. i look so forward to use it in my photography ... it is one my favorite things ever. thank you for making such beautiful things.
Artistic!
I bought this piece just as a thank you to the creator for making such a wonderful piece of architecture. It's more art than just a simple prefab - I really enjoyed moving around the structure, and the texturing/lighting is insanely amazing too. Great work once again <3
Quality Craftsmanship
There's now plenty of mesh builds in SL, however, few are high quality. Kendra Zaurak and FANATIK know what they're doing. This is one of the best mesh builds I have ever seen so far in SL. I look forward to many more great things to come from them in the future. I advise you to 1. Go and take a look at all their fine work, and 2. Google the word SALK and take a look at how well they replicated it here in SL.
Stunning
Truly remarkable build. I have encountered very few builds of this quality in SL. One day all prefabs will be built like this...I cannot recommend highly enough and am genuinely excited about what the makers will come up with next. Well worth the money.
