Simple Contest Board
Sometimes names are deceptive and this is one of these cases. Our Contest Board is low on lag and prim, simple in setup and operations yet it is a very elegant solution, combining efficiency and versatility.
One thing however it does not do - it does not display contestants' names on its surface. Other boards commonly use dynamic text-writing scripts, like XyzzyText and FURWARE text. The former, in its most advanced version, supports writing up to 10 characters on a single prim but is horrible in adding lag. The latter is better in lag but allows only 8 characters per a mesh prim.
Now, SL first names over 11 chars are not that uncommon and 10-character last names also could be found. So you must have 3 prims to display a full SL name. You would also want to display no less than 5 names at once. So 5 rows of 3 prims each equals 15 prims, plus the board itself, plus the buttons...
Should many people participate in your contest (which you certainly hope for), 5 rows is definitely not enough - by the time the display scrolls to the last name, the first one has already slipped from memory. Of course you can buy a board with more display rows and start with 30+ prims instead of 15+. Not to mention the lag scrolling introduces.
So we've made a design decision. Instead of a scrolling display of names our board gives an alphabetical menu of entrants on touch. The result is a sleek single-prim board with additional framing configurable as temp-on-rez. Efficient in operations and not too high in cost.
