If you have and island or property on the edge of a sim, it looks like there is water off the edge but you normally cannot go there. Some people call this the Void Sea. This whirlpool is an “off-sim extender” that you can place out there on the Void Sea to improve the view. But a whirlpool does not just sit there like a rock, it spins and draws the white-water texture into the center. The complex ever-changing rippling surface of this maelstrom rises waves above the water. It makes a roaring water sound. A dialog allows you to position whirlpools at different distances off-sim, change the size and change the volume of the sound.

If you would like to set up a water environment next to your skybox, the Maelstrom will work at altitude. It can be set up on your water prim, or with SkyWater to help it find the same water level as other Ocean Engineering products up there.

The Maelstrom also works with Ocean Engineering Off-Sim Vehicles! These vehicles allow you to paddle, sail, motor or even just swim up to 45 meters off-sim. If you get too close to the maelstrom, you will be pulled into the center in a decreasing spiral! (Most of the vehicles can escape if you turn in the right direction, but “standing up” will always snap you back on-sim).
