Established in 2013, House of the Spirits Botanica is an educational site dedicated to the African diaspora faiths of Vodou, Santeria, Palo, and other Shamanic belief systems. Set amid the bayous of picturesque New Toulouse, a 1920’s New Orleans-themed sim, we exist to instruct the curious, dispel misinformation, and serve as a public resource open to all. Our marketplace store offers difficult to find tools (herramientas) and artifacts such as veves or firmas (floor drawings), elekes or collares (necklaces), ideu (bracelet), coronas (crowns), iruke/irukere (flywhisk), soperas (containers), drapos (flags), amulets, and other items. Many of these can also be viewed at our inworld site, and some can be purchased there. Most art and books on site give notecards on the orishas, loas, shamanism, and other topics. We also offer a quiet space to meditate or pray, a sweat lodge, a set of singing bowls and a skybox swamp with a poteau mitan and dance circle with drums. We sometimes also host events, such as a Mardi Gras Blessing of the Waters and a St. John’s Eve celebration. All are welcome! ¡Ashé ! (to life! Both real and virtual)
