Sometimes names are deceptive and this is one of such cases. Our Contest Board is low on lag and prim, simple in setup and operations yet it is a very elegant solution, combining efficiency and versatility.
One thing however it will not do - it will not display contestants' names on its surface. Other boards commonly use XyText script (http://lslwiki.net/lslwiki/wakka.php?wakka=XyText), which, in its advanced version, allows writing up to 10 letters on a single prim via textures. Now, 11-letter SL last names are not uncommon, just as 10-letter first names. So you must have no less than 3 prims to display a name. You would also want to display no less than 5 names at once. So 5 rows of 3 prims each equals 15 prims, plus the board itself, plus the buttons, plus the lag...
Should many people participate in your contest (which is certainly what you hope for), 5 rows are definitely not enough. Of course, you can buy a board with more display rows and start with 30+ prims instead of 15+... not to mention the lag XyText introduces...
So we've made a design decision. Instead of a scrolling display of names our board gives their alphabetical menu on touch. The result is a sleek single-prim board with additional framing configurable as temp-on-rez.
Besides, this concept enabled us to make a Contest Board-A Addon to our exclusive Album-S product. The Addon dynamically compiles a list of entrants from their pics in the Album-S content so the users can vote for entries. Meanwhile the Album-S scrolls thru the pics and even sells them. What a way to run a popularity contest!
